Mawaqif timing reduced during Ramadan

The Department of Transport (DoT) in Abu Dhabi announced today that it will reduce Mawaqif paid timings during the holy month of Ramadan.

Dubai's RTA to scrap Salik cap on July 15

The daily cap on Salik charges, Dubai's road-toll system, will be scrapped from July 15, the emirate's Roads and Transport Authority has announced.

The decision was designed to encourage motorists to use alternative roads, such as Al Khail Road and Mohammed bin Zayed Road, to ease traffic congestion, the RTA said in a statement.

Abu Dhabi International Airport launched the world’s first ‘GoSleep’ pod for travelers. For $12.25 (45AED) an hour, travelers get the chance to kick back and relax at the airport’s departure lounge and enjoy some shut-eye within a futuristic looking chair, which lays back into a bed.

Abu Dhabi to build 25 shopping centres

The Municipality of Abu Dhabi City is planning to construct 25 shopping centres in residential districts across the emirate on the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model in order to meet the daily needs of Abu Dhabi city neighbourhoods.
These centres comprise supermarkets, cafes and restaurants in addition to outlets for providing community/government services.

The municipality also announced that it will soon offer four community centres (Residential District Centres) through public tenders in Bani Yas, Shawamekh, Samha and Nahda.

According to the municipality, preparations are in hand for inviting a number of public tenders to develop community market projects. The centres will be funded, built and operated by the private sector, as per the set parameters and rules.

Rolls Royce creates exclusive car collection for Abu Dhabi

ABU DHABI — Luxury car maker Rolls Royce has created a bespoke collection of vehicles exclusively for Abu Dhabi and Al Ain in the UAE, local newspapers said on Thursday.

Rolls Royce designers took inspiration from Medieval Andalusia, the center of cultural exchange between Islam and Christianity in the middle ages, Al Arabiya said.

The series of cars has been named the ‘Rolls Royce Ghost Andalusia Motif’ and will be available via an exclusive local dealership only, it said, adding that only five of the models bearing the special motif will be produced globally, making this car a true stamp of luxury.

Each of the Andalusia cars cost 1.57 million dirhams and despite the price tag three of the cars were sold while still in production, according to the Dubai based Gulf News.

Arabtec wins Dh1bn contract for 39-floor Fairmont hotel in Abu Dhabi

A 39-storey Arabian-themed arched skyscraper hotel is set to rise on Abu Dhabi’s coastline after the UAE-based Arabtec was awarded the Dh1 billion (US$272.2m) construction contract.

Arabtec said yesterday that it would build the Dewan Architects-designed linked twin towers Fairmont hotel on the Abu Dhabi breakwater close to Marina Mall within 30 months.
