Abu Dhabi bans bicycles from parks

Abu Dhabi: Residents cannot ride bicycles in Abu Dhabi parks anymore. Abu Dhabi Municipality has started to enforce an existing blanket ban on bicycles in all parks in the city, a senior official told Gulf News on Saturday.

Saudi Arabia downs UAE in World Cup qualifier

Saudi Arabia has defeated the United Arab Emirates 2-1 in its second World Cup qualifier at Bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

The UAE took the lead on Wednesday night, only 23 minutes into the game. Subait Khater scored the opener after his shot, following a brilliant corner kick, was deflected off Khaled Aziz into the net.
Abdu Ateef equalized in the 68th and four minutes later substitute Ahmed Al Fraidi sealed the win for the Saudis.
In the other Group B match on Wednesday night, South Korea was held to a 1-1 draw at North Korea.

American-Abu Dhabi Film Fund Is Formed

Imagenation Abu Dhabi, a new film finance unit backed by the Abu Dhabi government, is joining Participant Media, an issues-oriented movie company formed by eBay’s co-founder Jeff Skoll, to create a $250 million film fund that expects to make and market as many as 18 pictures over the next five years. Imagenation, a subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi Media Company, last week said it planned to invest about $1 billion in films with American partners.

New drivers will be taught first aid

Basic first-aid training will be compulsory from next year for all Abu Dhabi driving license applicants, who will have to pass a test before they are allowed to drive.
The Government hopes the training will give drivers better knowledge and understanding of the way to treat roadside casualties, which could ultimately give some victims a better chance of survival.
