Hollywood celebs join Arab stars at Abu Dhabi fest

The second edition of the Middle East International Film Festival, hosted by the oil-rich emirate of Abu Dhabi, has kicked off with a glamorous red carpet parade.
Hollywood stars Antonio Banderas and his wife Melanie Griffith, as well as Meg Ryan and Adrien Brody and director Rian Johnson joined Arab cinema stars, including Egyptians Yosra and Hussein Fahmi, for the opening ceremony of the 10-day festival in the luxurious Emirates Palace hotel.

Sharks, Cheetahs to play in Abu Dhabi

The Super 14 teams of the Cheetahs and the Sharks will play one another on January 24 next year in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Sport promoter Willem Strauss confirmed that the two South African franchises have accepted the invitation to play a Super 14 warm-up game in Abu Dhabi. This is the first time a Super 14 warm-up game will take place in Abu Dhabi.

Qtel Mobile Number enters the Guiness

Qtel, the Qatari telecommunications provider is listed in the new edition of the Guinness World Records, after a charity auction, which saw the sale of the world’s most expensive mobile phone number.

The sale of the number raised QAR 10 million (US$ 2.75 million) at the event.

Although the auction took place over a year ago, the unbroken record will appear in the 2009 edition of the Guinness World Records book, published worldwide on 17th September 2008.

No Work Permit Without Suitable Housing for Workers

Abu Dhabi -- The Ministry of Labour (MoL) has rejected work permit applications of some contracting companies as they had failed to provide 'suitable accommodation' to employees, a senior MoL official said.
