Etihad Airways launches South Africa cabin crew recruitment drive

Abu Dhabi’s Etihad Airways has launched a cabin crew recruitment drive, as part of an effort to tap the “strategically important market” for the airline.

“To support the rapid, dynamic expansion of Etihad Airways, we are delighted to host our recruitment drive in South Africa, a strategically important market for the airline,” Aubrey Tiedt, Etihad Airways’ Vice President Guest Services, said in a statement.

Abu Dhabi Among Global Top 20 Cities For Mall Development

Abu Dhabi ranked the highest in the Middle East and 18th globally among cities that are actively developing shopping centre space, according to a new report from CBRE.

During 2013, Abu Dubai delivered 168,000 sq m of retail space, placing it among the top 20 cities globally for shopping centre space completed. In comparison, Dubai delivered just 35,000 sq m of retail space last year, the report said.

New malls launched in Abu Dhabi last year include The Galleria, a luxury-shopping destination on Al Maryah island and World Trade Center Mall, located in the Old Central Market area.

Tas’heel centres to cancel labour services

Abu Dhabi: The Ministry of Labour has decided to grant Tas’heel service centres in Abu Dhabi complete exclusivity in providing cancellation services starting April 6.
The decision has been taken within the framework of implementing the second phase of the ministry’s plan to withdraw services gradually from typing centres and restricting this service to the seven Tasheel centres in the city.
“Restricting cancellation services, which vary between 18 types, to Tas’heel service centres came after the ministry’s in-depth research,” Humaid Bin Deemas Al Suwaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Labour for Labour Affairs, said.

Emirates ID to be linked with bank accounts

The UAE residents will soon be able to use Emirates ID card to withdraw money from the ATM machines.

Al Hilal Bank has announced that it will soon be the first bank in the UAE to allow customers to use their Emirates ID cards to make ATM cash withdrawals.

Abu Dhabi targets 3.1m tourists during 2014

Abu Dhabi's hotels enjoyed their best year yet in terms of guest arrivals, guest nights, length-of-stay and revenues during 2013, tourism chiefs have revealed.
Figures just released by Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi) show that last year, 2,806,283 guests checked into the emirate's 150 hotels and hotel apartments - a rise of 18 percent on 2012 and beating TCA's annual target of 2.5 million.
On the back of the full-year performance, the authority said it has revised its 2014 target upwards to 3.1 million visitors.
The 2013 guest intake delivered close to 8.8 million guest nights - a 26 percent uplift on 2012 - with total revenue climbing 18 percent to AED5.48 billion ($1.5 billion).

Jet Airways to launch flights from Bangalore, Hyderabad to Abu Dhabi

Jet Airways has launched two new international flights - Bangalore to Abu Dhabi and Hyderabad to Abu Dhabi, effective March 1.

According to Gaurang Shetty, Senior Vice President – Commercial, Jet Airways, these two new routes will be serviced by Boeing 737 – 800 aircraft and also enhances flight connectivity beyond Abu Dhabi to destinations in West Asia, North America, Europe and Africa.

Abu Dhabi bans trucks on roads during fog, peak hours

The Traffic and Patrols Directorate of the Abu Dhabi Police has banned trucks and large vehicles on internal and external roads during fog. Such vehicles can continue their trips only after clear visibility returns.

Trucks and large vehicles are also not allowed to enter the city of Abu Dhabi during peak traffic hours. The directorate warned drivers that the punishment for violating these norms will be “considerable”.

Drivers fined, 3,199 vehicles impounded in Abu Dhabi

Thousands of vehicles have been seized from roads in the capital this year after cops found they were fitted with old and worn-out tyres.

Abu Dhabi Traffic and Patrols Directorate said it impounded 3,199 vehicles with bad tyres during the first 10 months of 2013.

Police said two people have been killed and scores injured in tyre-related accidents on roads in Abu Dhabi’s Outer Region so far this year.
