Abu Dhabi Police activate 16 flash-less Surveillance cameras

The Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police announced the activation of 16 additional surveillance cameras to detect red-light jumping vehicles on five intersections in Zayed City in the Western Region, as of Monday, April 13.

7 pedestrian bridges open in Abu Dhabi

As part of Abu Dhabi strategic plan to provide safe passageways for pedestrians in Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi General Services Company (Musanada) announced that it has officially opened a number of footbridges in Abu Dhabi.

The project is part of Abu Dhabi efforts to provide the emirate with pedestrian passages that ensure public safety and encourage an environment free of pedestrian related accidents.

35 per cent drop in Abu Dhabi road fatalities in the last five years

Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi’s road safety record continues to improve, with a 35 per cent decrease in road fatalities in the last five years (2010-15), according to the statistics released by the police.
The official numbers released on Saturday by the Traffic and Patrols Directorate of Abu Dhabi Police, also showed a 54 per cent reduction in fatalities caused by run-over accidents. Serious injuries related to traffic accidents were also reduced by 50 per cent. Fatalities linked to traffic accidents was also down by 59 per cent per 100,000 residents, even though there was an increase of 12 per cent in registered vehicles.

Furious 7 will not premiere in Abu Dhabi

Sources close to the Hollywood production team for Furious 7 have told The National that, contrary to previous indications, the movie will not be having its global premiere in Abu Dhabi.

There was some hope that Abu Dhabi would be rolling out the red carpet at the end of next month, ahead of the film’s global release on the first weekend in April, after a team touched down in the UAE last year to look at possible premiere locations, including Vox, Yas Mall and Emirates Palace.

Abu Dhabi wins bid to host the 2019 World Energy Congress

Abu Dhabi: Suhail Bin Mohammad Faraj Faris Al Mazrouei, the UAE Minister of Energy and Chairman of the UAE National Committee for the World Energy Council, WEC, today confirmed that Abu Dhabi’s has won the bid to host the 2019 World Energy Congress.
Hosting the Congress in Abu Dhabi would mark the first time in the event’s 90-year history that it has been held in one of the Opec member countries. The World Energy Congress, one of the largest energy forums in the world, is held every three years. The UAE had previously announced it was bidding to hold the congress last October. Two other cities where also competing to host the event: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and St. Petersburg, Russia.

‘Welcome Back’ First Bollywood Film to Shoot in Emirates Palace

Firoz Nadiadwala’s “Welcome Back” has become the first Hindi film that was allowed to shoot at the Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi. The film is scheduled for release Jan. 2015.
While several other Indian and foreign film crews have approached the hotel to shoot at the location, this is the second film in the world after “Fast and Furious 7” that was permitted to enter the premises.

Rafael Nadal Committed To Play In UAE Tourney In January 2015

Struggling with injuries in the second half of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) season, Rafael Nadal is set to play at the 2015 Mubadala World Tennis Championship (MWTC) according to tournament’s organisers.

The development was reported by The National, a United Arab Emirates-based website, which stated that IMG, the organiser for the Abu Dhabi tennis tournament, has gotten commitment from Nadal’s camp that the Spaniard will play in the tourney slated from Jan. 1 to 3, 2015 at the International Tennis Centre at Zayed Sports City in Abu Dhabi, U.A.E.
