Reduced Ramadan working hours announced

The working week in the emirates will be cut down to 36 hours from 48 hours, or 6 hours a day, UAE daily Gulf News reported, citing a Ministry statement.

The conditions apply to all workers, Muslim and non-Muslim, the report said, adding that employers cannot force workers to work the extra hours.

Companies flouting the work hours will face hefty penalties and workers are encouraged to report any violations to the Ministry of Labour.

Campaign to avoid tyre blowouts during summer

Abu Dhabi: The Ministry of Interior is organising an awareness campaign to reduce instances of tyre blowouts this summer after 31 people were killed last year.

About 243 people were injured in 96 accidents caused by tyre blowouts in 2011, said a press release issued by the ministry yesterday. The awareness campaign titled ‘Summer without accidents’ will run until August. This is part of the strategy to maintain the safety and security on the roads, said Brigadier Gaith Hassan Al Za’abi, Director-General of Traffic Coordination at the Ministry of Interior.

Municipality of Abu Dhabi City calls for removal of satellite dishes

The Municipality of Abu Dhabi City has called upon landlords, tenants and occupants of residential buildings, villas, apartments and commercial premises across Abu Dhabi city to remove the satellite television dishes along with cable extensions; which are mushrooming in a haphazard manner on the walls, rooftops '&' balconies of these buildings.

The move is part of the Municipality's strategy for maintaining the cleanliness of the city, improving the overall appearance of the metropolis, enhancing the security '&' safety aspects, curbing the environmental pollution, promoting the environmental awareness of community members, and mustering the efforts of individuals in protecting '&' safeguarding the environment against all forms of pollution and distortion.

Deadline set for UAE mobile users to re-register SIM cards

The UAE Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has given a timeframe of 18 months for mobile phone subscribers to re-register their SIM cards, local daily Gulf News reported on Thursday.

Etisalat is expected to begin SIM card registration for its customers from July 17 in its 105 sales outlets across the UAE, while telecom operator, du was not available for comment.
