International driving license vs local driving license

I am driving in Abu Dhabi using international driving license from Hong Kong. However, as far as i know, when i got the resident permit. I cannot drive here using my international driving license. I have to take a driving exam here which may take a month time to complete. I need to drive as long as i got the resident permit. What can I do ? Can i wavie the exam ?

You are right, as long as you are under visit visa you will be able to drive, but when ever you get your resident you have to stop, you can not change the exam date but you will be lucky if you get it within one month.

Am not sure but i think you can pay extra charge and they will let your exam earlier,, just go and ask in the driving department or in the driving school.
Could u make it sure for us if ever u asked them?

International Driver's licence

hello can anyone tell me if I can use my firm's car with an international driver's licence? I'm still on tourist visa. I was told that insurance doesn't cover this case. In other countries this doesn't happen.

I am the same situation. I now got the resident visa and cannot drive with HK license.
I have already paid the VVIP course and Dhs200 per lessons, and now paid more than Dhs10k and spend over 4 months but still cannot get the license.

You can have a general web search, on average you need to take 3-5 tests in order to pass, the extreme is to sit for 25 times and spend 5 years for test.

It is a clever policy to make money by the driving school.

My brother from europe will visit me in some weeks as tourist and wants to drive my local Abu Dhabi car. Is he allowed to drive with international license or does he need to rent a car? I heard that there's a special procedure for relatives... anyone knows?
