Abu Dhabi and Doha

Hello everyone

I am new to the forum, and am so glad to be part of it now!

Can anyone help me? I am making a comparison between Doha and Abu Dhabi, in terms of:

1. cost of living - this is quite high in Doha. Wonder is it comparable in Abu Dhabi, or more?

2. children education - in Doha, placing the kids in a suitable school is a nightmare. What about in Abu Dhabi? On that note, I wonder if anyone can recommend any schools that follow either the British or IB system? I have a 7-year-old and 11-year old girl - does anyone know of any good schools that offer both primary and secondary education? Is Arabic a must in the schools?

3. traffic condition - again this is a nightmare in Doha. We can never reach our destination without getting into some kind of traffic jam, regardless of time of day. Parking is also a big headache, especially in malls.

4. standard of living, recreation etc esp with young children on weekends. In Doha, we go to beaches, playgrounds and shopping malls on weekends. On some occasions, we will take car rides round Qatar - to Durkhan, al Khor etc. What kind of recreation are there in Abu Dhabi, for children? Are the beaches in Abu Dhabi clean?

5. salary range - given the same position, is the salary generally higher in Doha or Abu dhabi? I assume that the currency is about 1:1?

Also, wonder if there are many Chinese or Asians in Abu Dhabi? Will it be difficult for us to get the children into some kind of Chinese classes?

What about piano classes? Is it difficult to find a piano school/teacher in Abu Dhabi?

Sorry for so many questions. And many many thanks for any responses. Thanks!

AD and Doha

Hello there, welcome to ADL forum, I am newly moved to Abu Dhabi and here what i think,
1-Cost of living in Abu Dhabi is almost the same, but you have more option in buying, more markets, more malls, unlike Doha that have limited options.
2-Kids education (no idea) but am sure they have wide range of schools here,
3-Traffic, Abu Dhabi streets are more organized than Doha, Still you may face some traffic at 2pm and 6 to 7 pm. other than that it is much better, malls parking is a problem here as well but still you can find.
4-The nice thing about UAE that you are not limited to one place, you can spend every weekend outside AD, Al ain is a very nice place, with open green spaces, Dubai have many malls that you need long time to finish, a new open beach just open in AD few days ago clean and great.

Hope this will help you,

Salary range normally depends

Salary range normally depends on the company it self, Asian in Abu Dhabi is the most, Chinese, Filipino, Singaporean and many more, There is Ladies Club who serve this kind of activists for kids, swimming and piano and sports classes.
But most important be aware about that accommodation will be a hard thing here in AD,

If you come to UAE, you will

If you come to UAE, you will enjoy it for sure, the kids will have many things to do and places to go, you can spend every weekend in different emirate and that what will make advantage on Qatar that limited to Doha only,
Traffic in Abu Dhabi is a smooth type not the crazy one like Dubai, Parking is a problem in the malls and building without basement parking,
Am not so sure about the school issue,

Children classes and Guide Book

Earned points :6

Thanks for all the responses.

Seems that Abu Dhabi is a much more pleasant place to stay than Doha.

Hi Solo12, you mentioned the Ladies Club which organises classes for childrren. Can you tell me more about that? Do they have a website?

btw, when we were in Doha, we relied heavily on a guide book called "marhaba" for info and moving around. is there a similar guide book for Abu Dhabi?

thanks again!
