Municipality inaugurates jogging track on the Arabian Gulf Street

The Municipality of Abu Dhabi City has inaugurated Today morning (Tuesday) a jogging track on Arabian Gulf (Al Khaleej Al Arabi) Street at Al Mushrif as part of a master project envisaging the construction of 5200-meter long jogging tracks across the city, involving addressing other associated works such as site preparation, maintenance, irrigation, landscaping, sewage and infrastructure.

The opening of this jogging track comes in the context of the Municipality's drive to promote communal health and encourage the capital's residents & visitors of all ages to avail themselves of the facilities in place and maintain healthy habits in line with the Municipality's endeavours to improve the quality of the social in a healthy environment, and elevate the level of services offered in Abu Dhabi city to make it one of the best capitals worldwide.

The jogging track on Arabian Gulf St at Al Mushrif length extends 2400 meters from the ADNOC Petrol Station up to the Federal Passports Bridge. This track will soon be equipped with all service and health facilities, including muscles building equipment, benches, water coolers, vendor machines of soft drinks/beverages, litter baskets and other necessary services that encourage the practicing of jogging sport and maintaining the environment & public health. Another jogging track will soon be opened at Afrah Al Nahyan Yard extending 800 meters, at Mohammed bin Khalifa Street and Khalifa bin Shakhboot Street, comprising two tracks, one for jogging and the other for biking.

While inaugurating the jogging track on Arabian Gulf St, engineer Abdullah Al Shamsi, Acting Executive Director of Infrastructure and Municipal Assets Sector, said: "This initiative comes in the context of the Municipality's efforts to serve the needs of the community in practicing recreational and sports activities and accordingly contribute to raising the standard of living in the city, maintain health and physical fitness and create an attractive environment that encourages the practice of jogging and benefiting from the resources in place."

"Currently, there are other two tracks being constructed; one at Al Mushrif, in the surroundings of Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed School for Boys, extending 1100 meters and is scheduled for opening next January, and the other is at Zafarana on Street 29 rounding the 6th of August School for Girls, extending 900 meters, which will be opened in the first quarter of 2011," added Al Shamsi.

"These projects, which are implemented to the best technical and health standards, enable users practice jogging in a healthy, environmental and suitable atmosphere as reflected in landscaped areas and enhanced beautification that ensures maintenance of sustainability values and environmental protection. These tracks are being equipped to the best standards including the provision of sunshades for the convenience and protection of joggers, and superb structures built at high technical specifications befitting the climatic conditions of heat, dust and humidity. Such facilities are characterized by easy maintenance, cleaning and durability, besides addressing the requirements of safety, cleanness and ventilation. The long stretches offer the possibility of making continuous running, as much as needed, in a hospitable social and environmental surrounding. The overall objective of providing these facilities marks the continuous efforts made by the Municipality to live up to its social responsibility and showcase the importance of these amenities as an attractive venue for families to practice sport in a clean environment with a host of diverse options," concluded Al Shamsi.
