The Department of Transport (DoT) confirmed that motorcycles are subject to Mawaqif charges in the emirate, whether owned by individuals or private companies.

DoT said that motorcycle is treated as cars that use the parking area, in terms of fees paid and fines of AED 500 in case of non-payment of service fees, The decision was taken since motorcycles occupy paid parking space normally reserved for cars and bigger vehicles.

Motorcycles drivers expressed unsatisfactorily with the new rules, and requested Mawaqif to ensure that no one picks the parking slips that can only be placed on their bikes, unlike cars where they can be placed on the dash boards.

They also suggested to provide a dedicated parking spaces for motorcycles to resolve the issue.
